Story title: Messages Brought Home
Author: Ingvild
Word count: 431
Rating and warnings: Safe for everyone, I think
Characters and/or pairing: Mariemaia, Une, OC
Summary: Mariemaia gets a not from teacher. Une is very good at reading between the lines.
To the parent/guardian of Mariemaia Khushrenada,
Dear Sir/Madam,
This is Gabriela Lapin, Mariemaia’s homeroom teacher. I am writing this to address a serious concern about Mariemaia. While she is undoubtedly a very clever girl, it would be preferable if she could demonstrate this without disturbing the class. As it is, it seems as though she is using her intelligence to undermine the teacher’s authority in the classroom. If you would be so kind and ask her to listen to her elders, it would be much appreciated. If things continue the way they are, I am not certain she will fit in with this class.
Respectfully,
Gabriela Lapin.
Dear Ms. Lapin,
I know who you are, I remember being introduced to you when I first enrolled Mariemaia in your school two months and three days ago. As I am sure that it is unreasonable to ask you to remember the home situation of all of your thirty students, I would like to take the opportunity to remind you that there is no “sir” in our household. Also, as Mariemaia was formally adopted three weeks ago, there is no longer any doubt that I am her parent. However, the fact that you still refer to her by her old family name would indicate that this information has not been passed on from the headmaster to you, even after I asked him specifically to make certain it was. I will take this up with him at the earliest opportunity.
I am glad that you recognise Mariemaia’s intelligence. I am sorry that she is disturbing the class, although you are somewhat vague on which class this is. You merely mention “the teacher”, not which one. Is this a problem limited to your class? The fact that you did not mention speaking on behalf on any other teachers would indicate that it is.
I am afraid that mere age is not as large a source of automatic authority in the eyes of Mariemaia as many might wish. Mariemaia recognises true authority, and gives it respect accordingly. I am also not certain how she is disturbing the classes, as you are somewhat vague there as well. If she is, as you imply, using her intelligence to do so, does it refer to the incident she told me about a three days ago, when you were unable to answer her question in a manner more satisfactory than “it just is”?
I am afraid I am unable to discipline my child without knowing what, exactly, she is supposed to have done wrong.
With all due respect,
(Cmdr) Lady Une.

Interesting how little respect "with all due respect" can actually mean.
