Story title: Eyes

Rating and warnings: Safe for everyone
Characters and/or pairing: Dorothy, Heero, Relena. Quatre’s POV.
Summary: Set during the school days at Sank. Quatre reflects over his companions – specifically, their eyes.
Eyes are supposed to be windows to the soul.
Dorothy’s eyes are a pale, almost translucent blue. She looks at the world with a cool, analytical gaze, enhanced by the colour which could easily be described as ‘glacial’. Among many other descriptive words – such as ‘manipulative’, ‘’duplicitous’ and ‘somewhat insane’ - a lot of the people who know her have called her unfeeling. An ice queen. It is not easy to meet her eyes, because it is hard to find something to focus on in the pale irises. It is much easier to focus on the bifurcated eyebrows or the smug smile.
Dorothy’s eyes do not reflect what she is thinking. They seem deceptively shallow, but actually function as a shield. The blue covers for that clever but strange mind.
Heero’s eyes are the polar opposite of Dorothy’s. Where her eyes are so pale as to almost be colourless, his eyes are so dark that they almost look black. He, as well, has a gaze that is difficult to meet – but where Dorothy’s were too hard to focus on, it is the way Heero focuses on people that makes them uncomfortable. Heero stares at people as though he is seeing straight through them, uncovering every strength, weakness and insecurity, and shaking up their confidence.
Again, the eyes are deceptive. If Heero’s eyes are windows to his soul, one could think that he is cold, harsh and aloof. In actual fact, he is better at reaching out to people than one would think, and he cares very, very deeply about others.
Relena’s eyes are of a shade somewhere between Heero’s and Dorothy’s in darkness. Her blue eyes seem clearer than theirs, somehow. Relena’s eyes are the only ones that show a true window into her soul. They are open, warm, stubborn and filled with compassion and stubbornness. Relena’s eyes show her determination, her caring and her hopes.
And when Dorothy’s eyes meet Relena’s, her gaze increases in focus.
And when Heero’s eyes meet Relena’s, his eyes soften and lose some of the harshness.
Quatre watches them all, and wonders where his own blue-eyed gaze fits in.
