Summary: Important things that happen between April 196 and March 197.
April, AC 196. Relena Darlian, Vice Foreign Minister, pushes the Mars Terraformation project through Assembly. While several of the representatives from Earth are sceptical, the colony representatives in the Assembly are generally excited, and so are most of the public.
May, AC 196. The newly formed Preventer Agency receives their first headline since their offices opened, when they narrowly stop an attempted bombing of the Presidential residence. The bomber is brought to justice, and the President thanks Commander Une in person.
June, AC 196. For the first time in the history of space settlements, colonists come to Earth on vacation. Most are surprised by the weather, being used to it being artificial. Two people are hospitalised for heat stroke in Cairo.
July, AC 196. The first starship convoy to Mars takes off, to cheers from the entire Earth Sphere. The pioneers are people who are not generally used to being cheered for, being mostly dead-end burned out soldiers, so the enthusiasm is invigorating.
August, AC 196. Quatre Raberba Winner announces his resignation from his post as CEO of Winner Corporation in favour of his elder sister Fatima, and shocks the financial world by starting a small construction company with a group of unknowns.
September, AC 196. The newly built space colony L3 X-18999 is finally deemed ready for human population, and people start moving to it in large numbers. As always when a new colony is opened for habitation, people arrive with great hopes.
October, AC 196. The first Mars convoy returns to Earth after depositing the new settlers and equipment. The journalists jump on them for exclusive interviews on how the project is coming along, and the pilots and other crew readily answer.
November, AC 196. The Preventers make headlines again when they discover a base with mobile suits ready for battle. No-one claims ownership or responsibility for the suits, and it is assumed that they are merely a relic of the last war.
December, AC 196. Christmas preparations for the first year when Earth and Colonies alike are considered equal are interrupted by the Mariemaia uprising. When it is all over, Dekim Barton is the only casualty, and Mariemaia is taken under Une’s wing.
January, AC 197. Relena Darlian meets with Mariemaia publicly, and is the first besides Commander Une to reach out her hand in friendship to the young girl. Mariemaia flinches a little from the flashing cameras, but gives her hand in return.
February, AC 197. Lucretia Noin and a familiar yet unfamiliar man finalise the building of the local office of the Preventers on Mars. This comes as a great relief to many settlers, as the Martian society has become a wild frontier.
March, AC 197. Things are settling. Mariemaia takes her first steps out of the wheelchair, with Une by her side. Sally and Wufei prevent another attempt at threatening the government. Noin and Zechs have started getting the Martian society to resemble a lawful one. And Heero Yuy starts looking for a present.
